Fallen Warriors - But Not Forgotten!

Zeus

Zeus was an incredible animal. I could do anything with him. I’d carry him over my shoulders as a mink stole. He was a black phase animal from a fur farm. He was over a year old when I got him. He is my only real horror story. I put a young female in with him. About a month later he attacked me. I couldn’t believe it but watched my back more carefully. A couple days later he did it again. Worried for my daughters and wives safety, I shot him! Two days later the young female started showing signs on being in heat. All he was doing was protecting breeding rights. I didn’t think that she could have been heat at that young of an age so that wasn’t considered. I wasn’t planning on getting her fixed for another month. I misread what happened and reacted wrong. I have to live with that. Zeus was around 3 years old when I killed him.

Kayak

I got Kayak at 5 weeks of age. He was my special one. He went every where with me including a vacation in Maine and speedboat rides in the river. He slept beside me every night. Kayak was the smartest animal I had ever met. He could take multiple commands. Buffalo as he was referred to was a 21 1/2% wolfdog mix with malamute. He was totally defective. He had no hips and cancer. He got to be as large as 152 pounds. Kayak protected the house. No one could come in if I wasn’t home. If I told him it was okay, he’d let anyone in. Buff started losing his mind. He would hide behind anything. One day Kayak fell down and I was there to help him get back up. I knew that this would happen when I wasn’t there and I made the hardest decision of my life and had the vet come to the house and put him down. I was with him every minute and balled my heart out. This was one of the worst days of my life. Kayak was 12 years old. This was in November of 2000; I have his ashes on my hutch. I haven’t figured out what to do with them. I cry every time I think of him, I’m crying as I type.

s

Inca

Inca was born here and was supposed to be a 77% wolfdog. Her actual percentage was 21 1/2 %. She was a spay female and was short and fat. We called her our coffee table. The joke was always that you could set a beer on her back and it wouldn't spill. She loved the snow! Inca would knock people down and pin them with kisses that wouldn't stop. She had brain tumors, grand mal seizures, cancer and finally went blind. We had to put her
down. I cried for weeks. She is buried out back with a cross.

s

Timmy

Timmy was Kayaks younger brother. He was a 21 1/2 % wolfdog. He was called Toes, as his feet were so large. Timmy was a real goof. He loved to be in the house and unlike Kayak didn’t protect anything. He hated to ride in a car. Timmy was in with Star and they got along great. Timmy started failing so I decided to put him and Star out in the field kennel giving them 1/2 acre to play in for the duration of Timmy’s life. Timmy’s’ body started shutting down. He stopped shedding and started showing his age in his eyes. His real legs were getting dragged around instead of walking on them. The winter of 2003 was a brutal one with many days in the negative numbers. It was hard on Timmy and he was going to suffer. I brought him inside and spent time with him and pet him. Hotdogs were the food of choice. Timmy had lost a lot of weight. That afternoon at almost 14 years of age, I brought Timmy to the vets and held him to the end. I have his ashes with Kayaks.

s

Thor

Thor came here at about a year old. He was part collie and a 53% wolfdog. Thor was a great watchdog as he felt this was his property and no one was supposed to be here except us. He would wake me in the night with a loud roar (like a lions) I would find someone in the yard or something wrong. One time I caught someone breaking into our neighbor’s house when they were on vacation. After Gypsy’s death, Thor became very aggressive. It got so I had to carry something with me to clean the kennels and I couldn’t let Lisa or Donna in the kennels anymore. On February 2 of 2002, at the age of 12, I had Thor euthanized. When I got his ashes back I saved them till spring when I then spread them on top of Gypsy’s grave. They are together now forever.

s

Brut

Brut came here as an adult. His teeth were worn but he was sharp as a youngster. He was leash trained and very gentle. His background was from the old Russian wolfdog "Count". He came here as an 87 1/2% wolf content. Actual content was probably closer to 40 %.Brut died at around 23 years of age.

s

Gypsy

Gypsy was around 1 1/2 years old when she arrived here. She was a real lady. If she were human, she would have had her nails done. Gypsy was a very beautiful animal. Although she was registered as a 78 1/8 % wolfdog, there was no doubt that she looked and acted as a pure wolf. She might have been. Yippie as she was referred to was very much in love with Thor and her mommy (Donna). Thanksgiving Day 2001 during grace, Gypsy dropped dead at 13 years old. I carried her over to the bank facing the house behind the pond and buried her there with a cross. Thor cried for weeks.

s

 Luke

Luke came to me at about 3 months old. He was scared to death of everthing. He spent most of his life with Inca. They never really bonded and pretty much just put up with each other. Luke was vey loving and specially liked your frined from Conneticut, Linda Smolkis. At around 13 years old, Luke started losing his mind and became very agresive. I hated to do it but had to have him put down. I spread his and Timmy's ashes in the field that they both loved to run in so much.
